An Introduction to Eye-Movement Research There are fundamentally different types of eye movements, such as saccades and tremor. In the present talk, I describe the most important types, their characteristics, and their functions. Subsequently, the use of eye-movement recording for cognitive science research is motivated, followed by a description of various recording devices. The idea behind these systems and theiradvantages/disadvantages are discussed. Finally, I provide some examples of basic eye-movement studies demonstrating the insight into cognitive processes provided by eye-movement recording.
