The conference entitled “Complex Systems” is organized by School of Intelligent Systems, Institute for Studies in Theoretical Physics & Mathematics (IPM) and Physics Department, Kashan University, to be held from April 24 to April 25 ,2002, at Kashan university, Kashan, Iran. The scope of the conference is to bring together young theoretical and experimental researchers from physics and other related areas to foster interdisciplinary approaches to the study of interacting many-body systems. The principle focus is on the application of theoretical physics and in particular statistical approaches to understanding of the complex systems with non-linear behaviour. The conference is not designed as a pure research one. The main purpose of the conference is to introduce new interdisciplinary research subjects through introductory and expository lectures. The speakers are requested to give brief reviews on their research subjects and to report on major recent developments. Participants
are expected to have a physical background equivalent to M.Sc. degree in
physics as well as some background or expressed interest in statistical
physics. The subjects are chosen from a broad range of recent
developments in statistical physics and interdisciplinary areas. The
conference is open to students as well as researchers worldwide. All participants are invited to present a poster of their research interests. In the poster session, these posters can be visited and discussed by the participants and speakers.The closing date for requesting participation: 18 April 2002. A limited number of grants covering local expenses are available.

RegistrationWe invite applications from MSc. students to young post-doctoral researchers with an interest in statistical physics research. Applications should arrive by 13 !pril 2002, by electronic mail (addressed to csc_kashan@ipm.ir preferably in text format), by mail (addressed to Shahin Rouhani, Institute for studies in theoretical physics & mathematics, P.O. Box 19395-5746, Tehran, Iran) or fax (+98 - 21 – 229 0151 , to the attention of Shahin Rouhani, ). Requests for further information can be addressed in the same way or by phone (+98 - 21 - 229 4035).Applicants are requested to send a letter (e-mail if possible) to the conference address, with the word Application followed by the name of the applicant, in the subject, and providing the following information: (1) Family name and given name, (2) age and gender, (3) Nationality, (4) postal address, (5) e-mail address, (6) fax number, (7) degree (with date and university), (8) one academic reference (a name and e-mail address suffices), (9) present position, (10) brief description of current research activity (the last item e.g. by the reference of a recent publication). An electronic application form ( National - International )is available for this purpose. Applications for a scholarship may be submitted in the same letter, and should be motivated by a statement why no other funds are available. Only in case a scholarship is requested it is recommended that a letter of reference be sent without further requests from us. Our funds permit scholarships to a fraction of the participants with the priority given to those who apply for a talk a poster presentation. Printing and posting of our poster is cordially invited.The
participants are expected to arrive at Kashan on April 24 .For the
convenince of participants, a coach will leave Tehran (departure from
IPM) for Kashan at 3 PM, Tuesday 23 April. Those who wish to be
transported by the coach should inform the conference secretary at least three
days earlier. Fees and paymentThe participation fee will amount to Ir. Rial 700,000 (approximately equivalent to 100 Euro), and covers participation in the conference, handouts, accommodation, meals, guided site-seeing tours inside and outside of the ancient city of Kashan and the conference banquet. A limited number of scholarships, covering the whole or half of the participation fee, can be awarded to participants whose financial circumstances would otherwise prevent them from attending the conference.The registration will take place at the registration desk on 24 April.The Iranian Rial exchange rate to Euro is approximately as follows: One Euro = 7000 Iranian Rial Travel
Information and communicationIn all communication with us, we prefer e-mail (to the address of the conference at : csc_kashan@ipm.ir) in plain text (i.e. no attachments). Other methods as post and fax are given for the case that e-mail is unavailable. For administrative purposes we request that the subject of the e-mail specifies the purpose of the communication (application, recommendation, information ...) followed by the name of the applicant.
